IVWorkshop on India’s National & Sub-national GHG Emissions Estimates for 2005 to 2018
The Workshop was conducted to release the latest GHG emissions estimates for India and all the 36 States and Union Territories for time series 2005 to 2018. The keynote address of the workshop was given by Dr. J. R. Bhatt Scientist G (Advisor), MoEFCC. The inaugural session panel comprised of Mr. Ajay Raghavan, Joint Director, MoEFCC, and all platform partners, including Dr. Indu K. Murthy (CSTEP), Mr. Raman Mehta (Vasudha Foundation), Mr. Karthik Ganesan (CEEW) and Mr. Nikhil Kolsepatil (ICLEI), setting context for and highlighting the significance of GHG inventory process.
This was followed by the presentations of economy-wide estimates and sectoral insights. Participants were also briefed about the revamped website of GHG Platform India. This panel comprised of Mr. Karthik Ganesan (CEEW) , Ms. Roshna N (CSTEP), Mr. Nikhil Kolsepatil (ICLEI), Ms. Rini Dutt and Ms. Shivika Solanki (both from Vasudha Foundation).
A panel discussion on the theme “GHG Emissions Trajectories in the backdrop of India’s Net Zero Announcement and role of States in India’s Net Zero Journey”. The panelists included Mr Ajay Raghava, Joint Director, MoEFCC; Mr. Lokendra Thakkar, Coordinator, SKMCC, EPCO, GoMP; Mr. Shwetal Shah, Techinical Advisor, Climate Change Department, Government of Gujarat; Ms. Ulka Kelkar, Director, Climate Program, WRI India; Mr. Shubhashis Dey, Director, Climate Policy and Finance Programme, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation; Dr. Niveta Jain, IARI; and Ms Urmi Goswami, Economic Times. The discussion led to interesting insights on current gaps in the GHG space as well as the way forward for the platform, particularly in the context of India’s Net-Zero announcement and on the role of states in India’s ‘Net-Zero by 2070’ journey.
