AFOLU Sector
The AFOLU sector emissions estimations follow the IPCC (1996, 2006 and 2019) Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. Wherever available, country specific emission factors were used instead of IPCC default emission factors. A mix of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 level methodologies of the IPCC Guidelines were used. Calendar years are used for the purpose of estimating AFOLU emissions.
Some of the data sources used for AFOLU sector emissions estimates are listed below:
- Government of India Livestock Census data for animal populations,
- Area and agricultural production surveys of Government of India, such as, area under rice cultivation from the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
- India State of Forest Reports by Forest Survey of India (FSI)
- State-wise LULUC matrix provided in EnviStats reports published by MoSPI (2018 and 2020).
This methodology note is an addendum to the detailed methodology document of the last phase. The methodology note addendum is given at the end of this page. The previous methodology documents are under the ‘Resources tab’.
